It is about time!

Hi My Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

I haven't blogged in a good while.  Sorry about that.  I kept thinking of it at the most inopportune times.  So finally I am sitting at my desk and ready to blog.  Mmmmm, er, ah, ahem,  welllll.  Sorry, blogger's block.  There is a lot on my mind and a lot of things have transpired recently like vacation with our family, VBS, major dental work for me, and more.  Things change whether we want them to or not.  Most of the time I think we would rather things stayed the same, but even though they may appear to stay the same there are changes that are not readily apparent at first.  Everything gets older, some things break or wear out, other things become lost to us for many reasons.  Nothing stays the same.  I just realized that I have talked about this before.  My apologies but I am going to talk about it again.

I look around me and wonder where has the time gone.  Places and people have changed in what seems like the blink of an eye.  The music that I love is no longer the oldies, it is the obsolete and the 90s music has become the oldies.  Cartoons have become reality like Dick Tracy speaking into his watch, I know because I have one of those.  We won't even get into 8 tracks to cassettes to cds to blue ray to thumb drives, tablets, etc, etc.  Styles have changed so much in clothes that just about anything goes even some of the stuff I wore when I was young.  But the styles we wore when I was young had class and made sense.  I could name some styles that just make me want to puk, er, throw up, but then I am sure I would be offending someone so I won't name them.  Cars have come 360.  They are making muscle cars that were popular back in my day like the Camaro and Mustang.  Trucks were always popular and always will be.  It seems to me that the more things change the more they stay the same.  It is just a different day, looks older, costs more.

The Bible talks about the nature of humankind and how we sin and the way we hurt each other and turn our backs on God.  It was written a very long time ago about things that were said and done thousands of years ago, but it still holds true for today.  The more things change the more they stay the same.  They cooked with wood fires then and we cook with microwave ovens today and yet we still gossip, slander, lie, steal, kill, lust, etc.  Our mode of transportation has changed but the heart of humankind hasn't.  Styles and fads come and go.  New inventions pop up more and more everyday.  Dreams have become a reality.  Change is unstoppable no matter what we want and yet, the more things change the more they ........you got it!  The only "thing" that doesn't change is God: Father, Son, Holy Spirit.  God's love for us in Christ Jesus still applies no matter what changes we go through.  The end of all things is still coming and the destination is still the same: Heaven or Hell.  The only question is: which one will you go to?  I would say to you that in this sea of change that we call life grab onto the anchor that will stop you from getting swept away.  Hold onto Jesus, keep the Faith, and serve Him only.  As the Apostle Paul said, "run the race until it is finished.  Don't let anyone cut in on you.  Work out your salvation with fear and trembling."(my paraphrase).  Look around you.  Be an agent of change.  Tell people about Jesus, share with them the love of Christ.  And remember "the more things change the more they stay the same."

God loves you and so do I,

Pastor Bruce
